🌱 City Fences Off Linn St. Encampment + 1 Dead On Northside
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Cincinnati.
Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Sean Peek, your host of the Cincinnati Daily.
First, today's weather:
Cloudy with a snow shower. High: 37 Low: 21.
Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:
- The city of Cincinnati has fenced off a homeless encampment to "abate dangerous health and safety conditions" as well as to "connect [homeless] individuals with housing options and resources." The encampment, located beneath an interstate underpass on Linn Street, served as a place to sleep for many in Cincinnati's homeless population. Reportedly, city officials worked with the CPD to secure housing for encampment residents prior to the eviction; however, some say that the move is "not what equity looks like" because there is "nowhere for them to go." (WXIX)
- Civic organization Cincinnatus has announced TriVersity Construction and five prominent nonprofits as recipients of its 2022 Spencer Awards. The awards were created in 2015 to celebrate organizations that have committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within their work. (moversmakers.org)
- A man has died in an overnight shooting on Saturday in Northside. Cincinnati police officers located the victim, 35-year-old Delmar Griffin, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the CPD's Homicide Unit at 513-352-3542. (WXIX)
