📰 News we're reading

1. Cincinnati renames street in honor of longtime hat shop owner (wlwt.com) — Cincinnati is honoring Batsakes Hat Shop owner Gus Miller by renaming the corner of Sixth and Vine "Gus Miller Way" as his nearly century-old downtown shop closes. The famed hatter, who crafted pieces for presidents and countless locals, is retiring at 94 to spend more time with his wife, while the future of the storefront remains undecided.

2. Cincinnati City Council approves new parking security requirements in lots (wlwt.com) — Cincinnati drivers and parking lot owners will soon see tighter security rules, as City Council has mandated better lighting plus either cameras or on-site attendants in public lots and garages by Jan. 1. Aimed at reducing car break-ins and gun thefts, the ordinance affects about 200 properties citywide, though some operators worry about the added costs.

3. Historic properties are prime candidates for residential and mixed-use developments (soapboxmedia.com) — Major historic-building redevelopments in Cincinnati are reshaping housing, especially through tax-credit-backed projects like the Alexandra senior apartments in Walnut Hills and the planned Atlas Building conversion downtown. Local leaders highlight how city policies, state incentives, and The Port's Lunkenheimer District plans could expand mixed-income and affordable housing while preserving neighborhood character across Greater Cincinnati.

4. 6 must-see Blink Cincinnati installations you won't want to miss (cincinnati.com) — Blink Cincinnati is about to transform downtown, Over-the-Rhine, The Banks and Covington with more than 80 light and art installations Oct. 8-11. From a muon-powered spectacle at Fountain Square to immersive textile alleys and a fashion show nodding to Cincinnati funk legends, organizers highlight several standout stops to help you plan your route.

5. Will Eric Conroy attend President Trump's Saturday rally in SW Ohio? (kentucky.com) — Greater Cincinnati voters may soon see whether GOP House candidate Eric Conroy appears with President Trump at Saturday's rally in Vandalia, as he balances Trump's endorsement with the president's weak Ohio approval ratings. Conroy is challenging Cincinnati Democrat Greg Landsman while pitching himself as an independent voice, even as both campaigns frame what his ties to Trump might mean for local voters.
