29-Year-Old Killed In Car Crash On I-480

This is the second fatal car accident on I-480 in Northeast Ohio in three days.

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, OH — A 29-year-old woman was killed in a car crash on I-480 on Dec. 26, the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced. This is the second fatal car accident on I-480 in three days.

Patrol troopers were called to a car accident on I-480, near mile post 23, at 10 p.m. on Thursday. When troopers arrived the freeway had been closed by Garfield Heights police, and a 2009 Nissan Versa was in the middle lane of the highway.

According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of the Nissan was Brittany Ford, 29, from Bedford Heights.

Ford was coming onto I-480 from Broadway Avenue when she drove off the on-ramp, down an embankment and her car overturned onto the freeway, the Patrol said. She was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from her car.

Ford was pronounced dead at the scene, the Highway Patrol said.

The accident is still under investigation and the Patrol does not yet know if alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. Spokespersons for the Highway Patrol asked drivers and passengers to remember to wear their seat belts at all times.

On Christmas Eve, two days before this crash, a woman was killed on I-480 when she drove off a ramp and hit a dividing wall. She was also not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the Highway Patrol said.
