Allegiant Airlines Moving From Akron-Canton to Cleveland Hopkins
The airline said the move would double its presence in Northeast Ohio.

CLEVELAND, OH - Allegiant Airlines is moving its operations from Akron-Canton Airport to Cleveland Hopkins, effective Feb. 15, 2017.
Passengers with existing reservations on or after Feb. 15, 2017 from Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) can be re-accommodated from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) or receive a full refund.
"We're very excited to announce this major growth in northeast Ohio, a region that has demanded more low-cost, nonstop service to the wonderful vacation destinations we serve," said Jude Bricker, Allegiant chief operating officer. "This move to Cleveland will allow Allegiant to have a stronger presence in northeast Ohio and allow us to offer our low fares and convenient travel to even more travelers."

Akron-Canton Airport said in an emailed statement that despite the loss of Allegiant, the airport is still expecting its daily seat capacity to increase in the second quarter of 2017. However, according to the airport's website, there has been a decrease in monthly passengers almost every month of this year, with the sole exception of February.
According to Akron-Canton's website, traffic in July alone was down 20.5% versus July 2015. The airport saw 118,153 passengers during that time. August traffic numbers are not yet published on the website.

The Akron-Canton Airport released a $240 million, 20-year master plan in February. The plan includes LED light replacements, gate overhauls, redesign of the entrance road and more.
