Today's riddle: What is the difference between black eyed peas and chick peas? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Man charged in string of apartment burglaries across Cleveland (cleveland.com) — Cleveland residents are learning more about a months-long series of apartment burglaries that allegedly hit buildings downtown, in Tremont, and on both the East and West Sides. A 37-year-old man now faces 31 counts, including multiple burglary and gun charges, after investigators used surveillance footage and fingerprints to link him and a woman to numerous package and mail thefts across the city.
2. Ex-KeyBank employee sentenced to 10 years in fraud scheme that targeted elderly (cleveland.com) — A former KeyBank analyst based in Cleveland has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for stealing about $1.2 million from elderly customers, some as old as 103. The scheme exploited clients who lacked online banking, and local residents are urged to note how easily personal data and email accounts were misused to quietly drain savings over several years.
3. WWII veteran's lost dog tag given to widow in NE Ohio: 'Feels like he's home again' (fox8.com) — A World War II dog tag lost in the jungles of Burma has finally been returned to the widow of U.S. Army Senior Master Sergeant Charles Sedlmeyer in greater Cleveland. During a Strongsville VFW ceremony, the 97‑year‑old widow received the tag, offering a powerful, long‑delayed sense of homecoming for a local family and honoring a Merrill's Marauders veteran.
4. Resolution passed to rename portion of Lake Erie 'The Gulf of Cleveland' (fox8.com) — Cleveland City Council has symbolically voted to dub a two‑mile band of Lake Erie the "Gulf of Cleveland," a tongue‑in‑cheek move aimed at poking fun at federal efforts to rename landmarks. While purely ceremonial, the resolution could still influence how maps, tourism marketing, and even local T‑shirt makers reference the city's lakefront.
