Expect More Police on Highways This Weekend; Ohio State Highway Patrol Cracking Down on Drunk Drivers

OHIO - Hitting the road tomorrow? Be extra careful while driving. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is joining other patrols from a six state area to crack down on drunk driving starting Dec. 2 and concluding Dec. 4.

The focus on drunk driving is part of the 6-State Trooper Project which includes Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The goal of this weekend's show of force is to provide a high-visibility enforcement effort.

So far in 2016, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers have made 23,333 OVI arrests.

“Troopers take impaired driving seriously. We want all motorists to get home safely, and we will enforce impaired driving laws to get dangerous drivers off the roads,” said Colonel Paul Pride, patrol superintendent. “Motorists, remember that all OVI-related crashes are preventable. Be a part of the solution by pledging to always drive sober and encouraging others to do the same.”

The 6-State Trooper Project is a multi-state law enforcement partnership aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing.
