Ohio Coronavirus Update: Deaths, ICU Admissions Up

New cases of COVID-19 were down versus the state's daily average over the past three weeks.

COLUMBUS, OH — In the past 24 hours, at least 41 people died due to complications caused by the new coronavirus, the Ohio Department of Health announced Wednesday. Since the start of the outbreak, 2,299 Ohioans have died from COVID-19.

Ohio officials used three-week daily averages to determine how the state is handling the COVID-19 outbreak. On Wednesday, deaths and intensive care admissions were up versus their daily average, hospitalizations were level with their average and new cases were down.

There 442 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Ohio on Wednesday. Over the past three weeks, Ohio has averaged 527 new cases per day. At least 36,792 Ohioans have contracted COVID-19.

At least 75 people were admitted to hospitals for COVID-19 treatment on Wednesday, the state health department said. Ohio had averaged 78 hospitalizations due to COVID-19 per day, over the past three weeks.

Twenty-one Ohioans were also admitted to intensive care at hospitals due to COVID-19. That's up versus the state's daily average of 17 ICU admissions.
