Ohio University President McDavis Retires

Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis retires following criticism.

Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis announced Thursday that he will retire next year.

McDavis, the university’s 20th president, made the announcement Thursday. He has served as president since July 1, 2004.

“I never could have imagined when I first arrived on campus a shy, 17-year old from Dayton, that this university would transform me and touch my life in so many ways,” President McDavis said. “This university has always held such a very special place in my heart. Serving as the 20th president to my alma mater has been the high point of my career.”

Trustees will discuss a plan to recruit the next president tomorrow, according to Sandra Anderson, chairwoman of the Ohio University Board of Trustees.

McDavis and the university were criticized over his salary, raises, and his acceptance of a $1.2 million housing lease from a donor paid for by the university.
