Thunderstorm Watch In Place For Northeast Ohio

Severe thunderstorms are expected throughout much of Northeast and Central Ohio on Friday and continuing into Saturday morning.

CLEVELAND, OH - The National Weather Service has issued a thunderstorm watch for much of Northeast and Central Ohio. Cuyahoga and Lorain counties are both under the severe weather watch until late Friday evening.

The NWS said that heavy rain is possible locally, particularly in low lying areas and regions with poor drainage. Additionally, the thunderstorm could cause ponding throughout the region.

Temperatures will rise to 54 degrees at 11 a.m. and then fall to 45 degrees. The NWS says the rainfall could amount to a quarter or half inch throughout the day. Showers are expected to continue until about 3 a.m. Another tenth to a quarter inch of rainfall is possible overnight.

The chance for rain will start to taper of on Saturday. Temperatures will fall to about 45 degrees, but the chance for rain is only 30 percent. The temperature will continue to fall as the day progresses into evening, dropping to about 35 degrees on Saturday night.

Sunday will bring sunshine and warmer temperatures, a welcome reprieve for a soggy Northeast Ohio. The NWS is predicting Sunday will be mostly sunny and temperatures will climb into the mid-50s. Winds are expected to be calm.

There is a slim chance of rain showers on Sunday night into Monday morning. The chance of precipitation is about 20 percent.
