Vax-a-Million By The Numbers: How Many Registered, Rate Increases
Find out how many people have registered for the lottery, which counties have seen the biggest increase in vaccination rates, and more.

COLUMBUS, OH — Since the Vax-a-Million lottery announcement, vaccination rates increased throughout Ohio, Gov. Mike DeWine announced Monday.
"We made the decision to try this [lottery] and see what it would do," DeWine said. "We've been more than happy with the results."
The Vax-a-Million lottery will see $1 million awarded to a randomly selected vaccinated Ohioan. The lottery will pick five winners in consecutive weeks. Ohioans need to opt into the lottery for a chance to win. The first winner will be announced Wednesday evening.

As of Monday afternoon, 5.17 million Ohioans have started the COVID-19 vaccine process, and 4.54 million have completed the vaccination process.

The largest increase in vaccination rates has occurred among teenagers. Ohioans between the ages of 16 and 17 have seen a 94 percent increase in vaccination rates week-to-week, DeWine said. Ohioans 18 and 19 years old have seen a 46 percent increase. Ohioans 20 to 49 years of age have seen a 55 percent increase in vaccination rates.
Here are the counties that have seen the biggest increase in vaccination rates since the Vax-a-Million lottery announcement:
- Athens County (144 percent increase)
- Harrison County (143 percent)
- Morgan County (138 percent)
- Seneca County (138 percent)
- Wyandot County (129 percent)
- Miami County (129 percent)
- Gallia County (119 percent)
- Lawrence County (113 percent)
- Fayette County (113 percent)
- Ross County (107 percent)
The Vax-a-Million program has also generated statewide and national interest in the lottery. DeWine outlined the following impacts since his announcement:
- 2.75 million Ohioans registered for $1 million lottery contest.
- 104,686 young Ohioans registered for scholarship drawings.
- 74 million pageviews on Ohio Vax-a-Million website.
- $15 million of free media attention on Vax-a-Million.
