• Cleveland Heights City Council approves school-exempted TIF for Alcazar Hotel apartments (cleveland.com) — Cleveland Heights City Council has approved a 30-year, school-exempted TIF to help fund a $15 million renovation of the historic Alcazar Hotel apartments, while adding phased caps on rent increases for long-term tenants. Council also discussed ongoing Shaker Lakes litigation and backed a regional greenway project that will add an enhanced crosswalk at Mayfield and Warrensville.
   

• 'We just ran out of time': $1.2 million for lead removal goes unspent in Cuyahoga County (cleveland.com) — Cleveland Heights successfully spent all of its lead-abatement funds and even handled extra work routed from the county, helping make 58 homes and two childcare facilities safer from lead hazards. Still, only 13 Cleveland Heights homes were reached through the countywide program, and local officials say the city's remaining HUD-funded Lead Safe Homes program is far smaller than the now-expired state grant, leaving a large gap between need and available resources.
   

• Man charged in shooting death of 3-year-old in Cleveland Heights (cleveland.com) — A 20-year-old East Cleveland man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after a 3-year-old boy was fatally shot at a home on Sylvanhurst Road in Cleveland Heights. The child died at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, and the case is now moving toward a grand jury review.
