Today's riddle: What has a neck but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. You could see for miles, in 1890 (heightsobserver.org) — Cleveland Heights readers may be surprised to learn how the James A. Garfield Memorial in Lake View Cemetery helped spark the creation of their city and early Euclid Heights subdivision. The story traces 1890s land deals, streetcar expansion up Mayfield and Cedar hills, and how today's tree-filled neighborhoods replaced once-open vistas where you could see the memorial and Lake Erie for miles.
2. Silent film festival has its roots in the Heights (heightsobserver.org) — Cleveland Heights residents are at the heart of this year's Cleveland Silent Film Festival, with the organization based in the city and local musicians featured in key screenings. The fall series runs Sept. 15–20 at venues like the Cleveland Museum of Art and CIA Cinematheque, blending classic silent films with live scores and highlighting talent from Cleveland Heights and nearby suburbs.
3. Cleveland Heights police arrest woman for misusing 911 and abusive language toward officers (cleveland.com) — Cleveland Heights police recently arrested a woman who repeatedly called 911 from the Mayfield Road Burger King seeking rides to a hospital and then refused transport. Officers say she placed eight calls, demanded different responders, and used abusive language toward dispatchers and police before being charged with disorderly conduct and misuse of 911.
4. Man arrested for using ladder to look at woman through apartment window: Cleveland Heights Police Blotter (cleveland.com) — Recent Cleveland Heights police reports detail a voyeurism arrest on Mayfield Road involving a man using a ladder to look into an apartment window, along with several other serious incidents. Officers also responded to a gun-related assault between partners, a rifle incident in Forest Hills Park, a domestic violence case, and a disorderly conduct arrest on Lee Road.
