No Bomb Found At Heights Middle School

The district discovered a threat toward the school at 12:30 p.m. and evacuated the school. Police have now cleared the building.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH — Heights Middle School was evacuated Monday afternoon after district officials got word of a bomb threat directed at the school. The threat was written on a bathroom stall. University Heights Police searched the building, found no bomb, and deemed the threat not credible, Scott Wortman, a Heights Schools spokesperson told Patch.

"We appreciate your patience and understanding today. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We take all threats serious and credible until proven otherwise. Our security personnel will investigate this incident and discipline the person(s) responsible accordingly," the district told parents in a robocall on Monday afternoon.

The building was evacuated at about 12:30 p.m. Police were then brought in and searched the building. Officers found no bomb and then deemed the threat not credible.

Students were bused to Heights High School where they were housed in that building's gymnasium. Parents were able to pick up their children from the school. Students who were not picked up are being bused back to the Wiley campus and were dismissed at 3 p.m.

All after-school activities at Heights Middle School have been cancelled for Monday.
