Boys & Girls Club Closes Cleveland Heights Location

Besides providing programming to kids, the Club also served more than 20,000 free meals in the Height in 2017 alone.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH β€” The Boys & Girls Club in Cleveland Heights will close on May 31, the nonprofit announced this month. The organization said it was shuttering its Heights presence because the Heights United Presbyterian Church building is being sold.

The Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland (BGCC) had been running programming in Cleveland Heights since 2007. Primarily, the BGCC had worked in cooperation with the Heights Youth Club, which had owned the United Presbyterian Church building at 2065 Lee Road.

There are no plans to open a new Club in Cleveland Heights. The programming had been open to kids in both Cleveland Heights and University Heights.

BGCC President and CEO Ron Soeder said the sale of the church building would leave the Club without a site in Cleveland Heights. Without a community partner willing to cover operating costs for BGCC, the decision was made to pull out of the community.

Families with children currently attending the Heights BGCC programs will not be charged fees for the month of May. Any money put toward summer programming will be refunded, the BGCC said on its website.
