Did you know that more babies are born in America on September 16th than any other day? Uh-huh. Now count backwards 9 months.

Scientists say sperm quality is better during cold weather, and Trojan reports that every year, the highest condom sales are just before New Year’s Eve. As Martin Shortrecently sang on NBC’s Saturday Night Live: December is “the most amorous promiscuous, lascivious, randiest, lustiest, sexiest, horniest, and sauciest time of the year.”

Slow your roll for just a minute, single ladies. In 2012, there’s a MAJOR difference about how you conduct yourself during the year’s sexiest month.  Since October, home HIV tests are available over the counter. Initial price: $40. The manufacturer isn’t advertising the product as a tool to screen potential sex partners, but 70% of 4,000 participants in clinical trials said they’d “definitely” or “very likely” use it that way. Some recommended a 2-kit package so couples could test together.

All that’s required is a simple oral swipe with results in 20 minutes. No blood necessary. And, it’s not 100% accurate, as someone might not yet produce the antibodies the test detects even though he or she does carry the virus.

$40 and imperfect results. Still, for that partner you really like, why not consider one more step to have a merry little safe December?
