Serve the City - The third Gateway Heights distinctive

A summary of the third Gateway Heights distinctive - Serve the City.

Too often, churches are consumers in our society.  They talk way too often about what people are expected to give them and far too little about what they contribute.

At Gateway Heights, we want to turn (over) the tables.

To that end, we have made serving the city one of our three (see previous posts for the other two) core attributes as a church.  We love this area and we want to help our neighbors to improve it and educate everyone else on the great things already happening.

Jesus, not suprisingly, was all about giving.  In fact, one of the largest paradoxes in the Bible is that the Son of God showed up on earth not looking to take for himself, but looking to give himself for others.  The entire Christian message centers on the one person worthy of being a taker deciding to give himself on a cross instead as payment for sin.

So, in looking to follow that example, Gateway Heights seeks to develop partnerships with merchant associations, neighborhood groups, civic organizations, and other community leaders in order to improve our community.

We have volunteers and often times resources to get "the job done," but often times we have the hardest time finding the "job" to do.  So, this post is half about me informing you of Gateway Heights interest in service and half a request for you to help us find places to serve.

Do you know of a group, community, or organization that could use some help?  Do you know of a project that could benefit our community?  We can't do everything but we can do something!  Let us know.

We hope that in our service to the community, people might come to see the ultimate servant Jesus as the remedy for their disconnect with God.
