Car Chase Ends After Van Crashes Into Tree In Cleveland Heights

Video shows cops pursuing the van near the intersection of Somerton and Wilton when the van jumps the curb and plows through shrubbery.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — A high-speed car chase tore through the city and ended after the suspect's minivan jumped a curb, drove through a fence, over shrubbery and finally crashed into a tree. The driver of the van jumped out and took off running, police said. He was arrested a short time later.

On September 7, police were called to an Edgehill Road home for a disturbance report. While en route, officers were told the suspect had taken a stolen silver Dodge Caravan and fled.

An officer headed to the scene spotted the silver minivan on Euclid Heights Boulevard and tried to pull it over, police records obtained by Patch said. While the van initially slowed down, the driver did not put the van in park. After repeated orders to park the car, the driver peeled out and sped off.

The minivan hit speeds of 60 mph on residential streets while being chased by police, police said. Near the intersection of Somerton and Wilton roads, the minivan sped up, blew past the stop sign, and ran over a nearby curb. The van then ran over a wall of boulders, through a fence, through a yard, and crashed into a tree.

The airbags in the Caravan deployed, but the driver jumped out and took off running. Video from the scene shows a police officer in close pursuit, on foot, behind the man.

Cleveland Heights police engaged in what they described as an "extensive foot pursuit" while trying to track down the minivan's driver. He was found in a back stairway near a home on Edgehill Drive, not far from the Coventry neighborhood, police records said.

The driver of the minivan was Case Holloway, police said. He was arrested and is being charged with felony fleeing and receiving stolen property. He was also charged for several traffic violations, police said.

The minivan was towed from the scene and later claimed by Cleveland Police. The Caravan had been stolen from a resident in that city, police records said.
