Car Chase Ends In Cleveland Heights, Near Cedar-Lee Neighborhood
The Ohio State Highway Patrol used a helicopter to safely track a fleeing suspect.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH β A car chase and pursuit ended in Cleveland Heights when a man surrendered to police and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers on Thursday night.
Joseph Nelson, 23, of Cleveland, is being charged with fleeing and eluding and carrying a concealed weapon, Lieutenant Neil Laughlin of the Ohio State Highway Patrol told Patch.
The pursuit started near St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland. Troopers saw a Kia Optima commit several traffic violations and tried to stop the car. The driver would not pull over and led police on a chase into Cleveland Heights, Laughlin said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol used their helicopter to track the fleeing vehicle and were able to stop pursuing the Optima with their cruisers.
Nelson ditched his car on Goodnor Avenue and then ran through yards to get to a relative's house on Tullamore Road, Laughlin noted. Police quickly surrounded the house and Nelson surrendered peacefully.

Nelson had a loaded pistol in his possession, police said. He also had multiple felony warrants for his arrest, Laughlin said.
No one was hurt during the pursuit and no property was damaged, Laughlin said. Nelson may not have known he was being monitored by the helicopter.
The Optima was towed from Goodnor and is now in Ohio State Highway Patrol possession. Laughlin is being held at Cuyahoga County Jail.
