Carjacking At Community Center: Heights Police Make Arrests

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Three people have been arrested for carjacking a man outside of the Cleveland Heights Community Center. At least one of the suspects had a handgun during the robbery, police said.

The carjacking happened Monday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. The victim was getting into his car when two men rushed up to him and pulled out a handgun. They demanded the man's keys and then drove off in his car, police aid.

On Friday, police announced that two people had been arrested in connection with the carjacking. A third person was arrested for another local robbery, police said. Two adults and one juvenile were taken into custody. Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said a group of juvenile suspects, involved in other robberies, have also been identified and are actively being tracked down.

Mecklenburg took to Facebook to reassure residents of their safety, noting that police are working diligently to identify and arrest suspects and are patrolling aggressively.

The police chief has previously said that crime increases around the holidays. To try to deter crime sprees, police will maintain a highly visible presence throughout the city.

Correction: On Saturday, Patch reported that three men arrested for robbery had been taken into custody for an E. Derbyshire incident. Those men were actually arrested for the Dec. 3 carjacking and another local robbery.
