Cello CD pre-release party, concert and reception

Malina Rauschenfels performs solo cello music spanning 300 years, joined for pre-concert talk by award winning composer, Toby Twining.

Multi-instrumentalist Malina Rauschenfels is best known to Cleveland audiences as a soprano through her work in Burning River Baroque and Quire Cleveland. In a March 11 concert at St. Alban Episcopal Church, however, Rauschenfels will shift her focus to cello repertoire as she performs a diverse selection of solo cello music from the past three centuries. From the seldom played Baroque cello virtuoso, Gabrielli, to Bach, performed on a Baroque cello, she will move to 20th- and 21st-century selections, including one of her own compositions in its Ohio debut performed on a modern cello.

Rauschenfels is also proud to present the world premiere of music by highly regarded contemporary composer Kala Pierson and the Ohio premiere of music by New York-based composer Toby Twining. Twining, a recipient of prestigious awards including Pew and Guggenheim fellowships, will join Rauschenfels for a pre-concert discussion of compositional techniques entitled “The Creative Urgency of Re-tuning the Scale.”

The concert program is a preview of Rauschenfels’ upcoming CD, In D; all concert proceeds will go toward making the recording, estimated to be released in 2017. The performance will be followed by a reception with light refreshments where audience members can chat with Rauschenfels and Twining and pre-purchase In D.
