CH-UH Fifth Graders Read Scholarship Winning MLK Jr Essays
Three students from the district won scholarships for their essays responding to the prompt: "What would Dr. King say to President Trump?"

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH - Each year the East View Church in Shaker Heights holds an essay contest in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. This year, three Cleveland Heights-University Heights fifth graders wrote winning essays. The trio of winners were asked to share parts of their essays with the CH-UH Board of Education on Feb. 7.
The theme of this year's essay contest was what would King say to President Donald Trump. At an awards banquet honoring the winners, keynote speaker Donna Whyte the interim director of the Black Studies program at Cleveland State University, told the crowd that King would tell Trump to "stop tweeting."
Ultimately, the church gave away $1,575 in scholarships this year. Over the course of 27 years, the church has given away more than $29,000 in scholarships.
