CHUH Schools Institute New Weather Delay
Snow days may become less common in Cleveland Heights and University Heights thanks to a new district policy.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Students in Cleveland Heights and University Heights may have a few less snow days in 2017 and 2018, thanks to a new policy from the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District. The school system announced Tuesday it would institute a new two-hour delay option, meaning the district can start school two hours later than normal during inclement weather.
Here's how the delay would work. Elementary school students would start their day at 10:50 a.m., middle school students would start at 10:05 a.m. and high school would start at 10:15 a.m.
Staff will report work at their normal time. The school day will end at the standard dismissal time.

The district was careful to note that the new two-hour delay option will not replace the option to close school for the whole day. In a statement on the CHUH website, the school system said, "but it will allow for greater flexibility on days where the weather may improve by mid-morning. This could give temperatures a chance to rise or allow more time for the cities to clear the roads and sidewalks of snow."
Like other inclement weather announcements, the district will announce two-hour delays via robocalls, email, text, social media, local TV and on its website.
