Accountability Commission Members Still Needed For CHUH Schools

The group will monitor the development of projects at the district middle school.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Schools are seeking members for a new Bond Accountability Commission (BAC). The group will monitor the use of bond funds for the middle school. The deadline for applications has been extended to encourage more people to apply.

To join the commission, applicants must be residents of the district. Members must also have a background in accounting, finance, construction, or project management.

Selected members will review project budgets and make sure developments are on schedule. The group will meet quarterly to discuss the work.

Applications can be emailed to Caroline Jewell-Rogers at c_jewell@chuh.org. The application deadline is now July 17, 2017.

The district has said repeatedly that it is trying to create a more transparent and accountable school district. A 5.5 mill levy passed in November was opposed by some citizen groups who felt the district had not done enough to communicate openly and honestly with residents.

During the 2016 election process, which saw the district lobbying for the levy to pass, Superintendent Talisa Dixon stressed the CHUH Schools emphasis on transparency.

"In 2014-2015 we worked on a 5-Year Plan and part of that was to be more transparent," she said at the time. "We are not, in any way, trying to deceive our community."
