Cleveland City Cancels Summer Programs

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused cities across the country to re-evaluate summer programs and activities in the name of public safety, and Cleveland Heights is no exception. Taking into consideration all CDC guidelines and warnings, and in an abundance of caution, today we are announcing the suspension of all City summer programs. It is with regret that we are cancelling Cain Park’s summer season, all summer camps, Cumberland Pool, all youth and adult sports (tennis, baseball, softball, pickleball), as well as Safety Town.

The Community Center will remain closed for the time being and there will be no room rentals this summer. Picnic shelter rentals and field rentals are also discontinued.

In the interest of the health of our community there will also be no block parties this summer, no streets will be barricaded and no police or fire will be available for street events.

We do not take these steps lightly, but ensuring the health and safety of our community is our top priority. It is our hope that all residents and visitors will continue practicing social distancing, keeping any gatherings to ten people or fewer, and wear your face coverings while in public.

As the research continues to evolve regarding outdoor activity, we will be evaluating ways to safely support such activity. The Community Relations and Parks & Recreation Committee of Council plans to meet in the next few weeks to discuss creative options for various activities throughout the summer that are in keeping with CDC guidance.
