Cleveland Heights City Council Selects Last Mayor
Starting in 2021, residents will elect their mayor. On Monday night, city council chose the city's mayor for the (likely) final time.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH β Cleveland Heights City Council likely made its final selection for mayor on Monday night. City Councilperson Jason Stein, a lifelong Cleveland Heights resident, was chosen for the position during a swearing-in ceremony.
During a ceremony at Cleveland Heights City Hall, new councilpersons Melody Joy Hart and Davida Russell were sworn-in alongside returning councilpersons Mary Dunbar and Kahlil Seren.
Council then selected Stein for the role of mayor and Seren as vice mayor. Both councilpersons supported Issue 26, a ballot initiative to change the city's structure of government so residents could elect a mayor. The issue passed in November.

"I was born and raised in Cleveland Heights. I love this city. It is an honor to serve as mayor. I look forward to working with council to make Cleveland Heights even better," Stein told Patch in an email.
After Issue 26's passing, Cleveland Heights will amend its charter and, in 2021, residents will vote for an elected mayor. That mayor will become the city's executive branch leadership and will serve a four-year term. The city manager position, which currently governs the city, will be preserved but will report to the mayor.
