Cleveland Heights High School Student Brings Stun Gun to School, Is Not Arrested
The student said she brought the stun gun to school for protection.
A Cleveland Heights High School student who brought a stun gun to school on Friday will not face charges, but could still face discipline from the district, cleveland.com reported.
School security received a tip about the the stun gun from another student, according to a police report. The weapon was found in a 17-year-old girlβs backpack shortly before 9:30 a.m.
After security found the stun gun, the school contacted the University Heights Police Department to confiscate it. The police department still has the stun gun, and will decide whether to return it to the girlβs mother, Lt.Dale Orians told Cleveland.com. Bringing a weapon onto school grounds is against the law, but police decided not to charge the girl after reviewing the case.

The girl and her mother told police that the stun gun was for personal protection. A district spokesman said Monday that the girl did not use the stun gun to threaten other students.
The girl had been involved in an incident in another city, which prompted her to carry the stun gun, according to University Heights Lt. Dale Orians. Details of that incident were not released.

According to Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District policies, weapons are prohibited on school grounds. Students who fail to follow the policy are subject to disciplinary action as severe as expulsion.
