Cleveland Heights Joins NOPEC, Will Join Gas Aggregation Program

The gas rate from April to June 2018 will be $3.39MCf. Residents don't need to do anything to be part of the program, the city said.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH β€” Regionalization has been a topic of concern for several inner-ring Cleveland suburbs over the past decade. The debate has been how and where to combine resources and where to maintain the identity of a city. Cleveland Heights has struck a new deal for regionalization, signing up with NOPEC, (Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council), a non-profit council of governments comprised of 219 communities in 15 counties.

The city said in a statement online that joining NOPEC will help residents get better rates on things like gas. To that point, the city has already signed up for NOPEC's gas aggregation program. Residents should get a letter this week detailing the program.

"The gas rate from April to June 2018 will be $3.39MCf. Residents need take no action to be in the program however, those who wish to join another program will be able to opt out until February 23rd by using the postcard enclosed with the mailing," the city said.

According to the letter from NOPEC to Heights residents, as obtained by Patch, there will be two options available to residents who want to take part in the group's natural gas aggregation plan. The first will be the aforementioned $3.39MCf price for April to June 2018.

The second option will be a monthly variable price option. The price, under that option, will be $0.02MCf less than the standard option. A limited number of residents may sign up for that program, the letter from NOPEC's Chairman Ron McVoy said.
