Cleveland Heights Resident Named Chair of Business School at U of Phoenix, Cleveland

Dr. Stephen Quick brings vast knowledge of hospitality industry to the job.  

Dr. Stephen Quick will assume administrative responsibilities for the University of Phoenix School of Business, Cleveland Campus, including day-to-day oversight of curriculum development, and the recruitment, selection, assessment, certification, mentoring, evaluation and training of business area chairs and faculty. 

The University of Phoenix has learning centers in Beachwood, Independence and Westlake, which make up its Cleveland Campus.

Previously, Quick, of Cleveland Heights, was director of the hospitality management program at Cuyahoga Community College. At Tri-C, he successfully oversaw the reaccreditation of the hospitality management program by two industry-specific accrediting organizations. He also oversaw an expansion into two new facilities, including the showcase Hospitality Management Center located on the first floor of the former May Co. Building on Public Square in downtown Cleveland.

Quick began his career as many in the industry do: washing dishes. After quickly moving into a food preparation position, he decided to pursue a career as a chef, earning an associate degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales College in 1979. 

Soon after, he accepted a management position with the Department of Dining at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. Subquently, he worked at the Four Seasons Resorts and Hotels on the island of Maui and then as a corporate director of food and beverage for Fountains Retirement Communities in Tucson, Az., where he designed, developed and implemented dining concepts in more than 15 different style of senior living communities.

Quick has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Bryant College, a master's degree from the Cornell School of Hotel Administration and a doctoral degree in business administration from Argosy University.
