Cleveland Heights Schools Plan 'Walk-In' Oct. 6

Parents, community members, and school supporters will hold mini-pep rallies to encourage students and teachers before the day begins.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH - The Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District is hosting a district-wide 'walk-in' on Oct. 6. Parents, students, teachers, and community members are invited to attend.

The 'walk-ins' are actually mini rallies that start 15 minutes prior to the school day. After the rallies, the school day will begin on-schedule. The event is behind held in conjunction with The Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools (AROS), an organization that works on behalf of "educational justice and equity in access to school resources and opportunities."

AROS is coordinating walk-in rallies in more than 200 towns across the country. This is the organization's third walk-in event in 2016, the first two included 33 cities and were held February 17 and May 4.

"As public schools are increasingly threatened by a view of education that supports privatization, zero-tolerance discipline policies, less funding, and high-stakes standardized tests, AROS is fighting back with a broad vision of American public education that prioritizes racial justice, equity and well-resourced, world-class, public community schools," the organization's website says.

The Heights walk-ins won't be a first for the district this year, either. Schools held "More than a Score" rallies on Feb. 17, joining AROS and other sites across the nation.
