ICYMI: CHUH Schools Release Statement Supporting Transgender Students

The district said it will not allow discrimination or harassment of any students, including transgender students.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH - Despite the federal government's decision to roll back Title IX protection requirements for transgender students, the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District says it will remain steadfast in its support of all students.

In a statement posted on the district website on March 1, the school district assured families that all school buildings will remain free from "discrimination and harassment based on a student's transgender status."

The district says that it is using a collaborative process to serve the needs of all students. That process wraps in students, families, and school staff. Privacy of students will be respected and the district says it will comply with state and federal laws.

The CH-UH Board of Education has a specific policy addressing student discrimination. That policy extends to transgender students. The Policy #2260 states:

“Any form of discrimination or harassment can be devastating to an individual's academic progress, social relationship and/or personal sense of self-worth. As such, the Board of Education does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation or transgender identity), disability, age (except as authorized by law), religion, military status, ancestry, or genetic information in its educational programs or activities.”
