Cleveland Water Installs Meter Technology In Cleveland Heights

New technology will allow the department to read residents' meter without sending a technician to a home or business.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — An upcoming meeting will inform residents of water meter changes coming to Cleveland Heights residents, courtesy of Cleveland Water. On June 21 and June 24, representatives from Cleveland Water will discuss the change out program and how it will work within the city.

According to Cleveland Water's website, the department will be installing Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technology at homes and businesses in Cleveland Heights, along with a small group of University Heights residents that were served by Cleveland Heights water.

AMR technology allows Cleveland Water to obtain meter readings on a daily, or hourly basis, without sending meter readers to a property. In theory, that means residents should get more timely and more accurate bills.

Installation of the AMR technology will start in June and continue throughout 2017.

However, after the AMR technology installation is completed any and all damage to the meter and outside service point will be charged to the resident.

Additionally, customers will have to pay a minimum monthly service fee, regardless of their water use. If a customer is out of town for a stretch of time, the minimum payment will still be billed.

"Customers who use no water must pay a minimum monthly customer service charge based on meter size, to ensure that water service is available to the property," Cleveland Water says on its website.
