Deaf Performer Doing Free Show In Cleveland Heights

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Deaf storyteller and entertainer Dack Virnig will perform at Heights High Auditorium on October 7. The event is free and open to all.

The show is family friendly and will start at 7 p.m. Virnig will use American Sign Language (ASL) to tell the story of his life. An interpreter will translate the story for hearing members of the audience, the Heights Libraries said.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for both the Deaf and hearing communities to see a well-known and very funny performer, and it offers the hearing community a great way to learn about the Deaf experience," Adult Services Librarian Ben Gulyas said.

Born in Minnesota, Virnig is a member of a fourth-generation Deaf family. He said his mother told him fairy tales growing up, inspiring his love of storytelling. He won an ASL contest as a child, took part in high school plays and collegiate shows and then started his own YouTube channel.

Virnig is the third Dead performer brought to the community by the Heights Libraries.
