Death Cab For Cutie Drops Unflattering Grog Shop Reference

Ben Gibbard, the lead singer, said the bathroom at the Cleveland Heights venue was the grossest he has ever been in. High praise, indeed.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH β€” Ben Gibbard, the frontman of world famous band Death Cab for Cutie, will never forget his halycon days playing smaller venues like Cleveland Heights' Grog Shop...even if he only remembers the bathroom.

"Listen, I've traveled all around the world and I've never seen a more disgusting bathroom in my life than the one there," Gibbard said during his show at the Agora in downtown Cleveland this week, Cleveland Scene noted.

Holding true to the notion that any press is good press, the Grog Shop quickly hopped onto social media to proclaim itself the king of dirty bathrooms. "Thank you, we accept. Though TBH we have some VERY stiff competition here in Cleveland," the concert hall said on Facebook.

It should also be noted that with reflexive defensive Cleveland-pride, the audience at Gibbard's concert cheered when he mentioned the Grog Shop's ignominious placement on his list of filthiest bathrooms.

For what it's worth, having attended many shows at the Grog, we've never had a complaint about the bathroom. We may not have Gibbard's refined taste in loos, though.
