Democracy Day Returns To Cleveland Heights On Jan. 30

The city's annual public hearing from residents will be held in Cleveland Heights City Council chambers.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH β€” The 7th annual Cleveland Heights Democracy Day will be held Jan. 30 at Cleveland Heights City Hall. Residents will be able to voice their concerns about the direction of the city, state and nation during the event.

Democracy Day was established in 2013, when voters in Cleveland Heights passed Issue 32, a show of support for a 28th Constitutional Amendment which would state: only humans have Constitutional rights (not corporate entities) and money is not speech and money spent on elections must be regulated. The issue passed with 77 percent of the vote.

Issue 32 also established Democracy Day in Cleveland Heights, giving residents a space to voice their concerns about the nation. A public hearing was created to offer space for residents to talk about how corporate entities and money have influenced democracy in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and the nation.

The 7th Annual Democracy Day will be held in Cleveland Heights City Council chambers, 40 Severance Circle, on Jan. 30. The hearing begins at 7 p.m. Each participant will be given 5 minutes to speak on the issue.

After the meeting, members of Cleveland Heights City Council will summarize what was said in a letter and send it to U.S. congresspersons and senators.
