Explosive Device Detonated At Cleveland Heights Home

Police said an explosive device was detonated on the front porch of a Cleveland Heights home last week.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — An explosion shattered glass doors and damaged a home in Cleveland Heights last week, police announced. No one was hurt by the blast.

The explosion happened at 11 p.m. on May 13. Callers reported an explosion on Lecona Drive, while residents around the city complained about hearing a "very loud noise," according to Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg.

When officers arrived on Lecona Drive, they discovered an explosive device had been detonated on the front porch of a house. The front door of the home, and the porch area, were damaged by the blast. The glass door on a house across the street shattered due to the blast, but no one was hurt.

The Cleveland Heights police bomb unit and K9 unit were called to the scene. No other explosive devices were found.

Police were able to locate a suspect. That person is in custody, but no charges had been filed as of Thursday. Detectives are still investigating the explosion.
