Free Jazz Concert At Lake View Cemetery On Sunday

Cleveland Heights' Nighttown is providing a night of hot, swinging, vintage music at one of Northeast Ohio's most iconic locations.

CLEVELAND, OH — A free jazz concert will be held on Sunday at Lake View Cemetery, courtesy of Nighttown and Red Light Roxy. The latter, the band, will bring a hot, swinging, vintage jazz feel to their peformance on Sunday night.

The free performance will be held on the lawn in front of the Garfield Monument. Red Light Roxy will play from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets.

In an email from Nighttown, Red Light Roxy's performance is described as a mixture of upbeat jazz standards, jump blues, swing, boogie-woogie and a dash of old-school R&B. The band will play tunes from legends like Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles and Louis Armstrong.

Concert goers should enter the cemetery from Mayfield Road, just west of Coventry Road, Nighttown said in an email. If there is rain on Sunday, the performance will be moved to July 15, at 4 p.m. Luckily, current forecasts show a sunny, clear Sunday, with a high of about 83 degrees.

Red Light Roxy is the second of six bands that will perform, for free, at Lake View Cemetery. The music is the result of a partnership between Lake View Cemetery and Nighttown. Concerts will run until September 9. The next concert in the line-up is Blue Lunch, who will play the cemetery on July 22 at 4 p.m.
