Heights High Re-Opens For Classes

After nearly three years of construction and renovation, the Cleveland Heights-University Heights high school is back in business.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — After nearly three years of construction and renovation, Heights High School re-opened to students and teachers on Aug. 18. Members of the district, Mayor Cheryl Stephens, members of city council, and Superintendent Talisa Dixon attended a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday. Students started classes on Monday.

“It is exciting to be here today for the unveiling of this state-of-the-art educational facility. I am so pleased to welcome back the young people who will attend Heights High this year,” said Mayor Cheryl Stephens at the event. “The City prides itself on the quality of education we provide to our students as we prepare them to be the leaders of tomorrow. Renovating Heights High, which originally opened in 1926, was an important step in providing an environment that encourages learning and striving for excellence.”

Heights High has seen several additions over the past century. However, the high school was closed in 2014 for a massive renovation project. While the original 1926 building remained, some previous additions were removed and new spaces were added, including a natatorium, cafeteria and media center.
