Heights Libraries Expanding Loaning Policies

You can now rent 100 items with one card, if you want to.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH - The Heights Libraries are expanding their loan policy. So if you've ever wanted to rent 100 items from your local library, you're in luck.

Visitors will be able to check out 100 items per card, up from 75. Magazines and Playaway Views (portable video players) can now be rented for three weeks, up from one week. Blu-Rays can also be renewed twice. Previously, customers could also rent a Blu-Ray, but were unable to renew the discs. The library's "3 for Me" card customers (kids and teenagers ages 18 and under) can now check out adult print materials.

β€œThese policies are right in line with our ongoing mission to make it easier and more convenient for customers of all ages to access free materials and information,” says Heights Libraries Director Nancy Levin in a statement. β€œIn particular, our decision to allow β€˜3 for Me’ card holders to check out a wider variety of materials–we used to restrict these juvenile cards to juvenile materials, but then realized children, especially teens, may need access to adult items for schoolwork, especially nonfiction items.”

The new loan policies go into effect immediately.

The 3 for Me cards were originally meant for minors that couldn't get a parent or guardian's signature. The card allows users to access three books at a time. Previously, customers with a 3 for Me card could only access minor-approved material.
