Help Keep Doan Brook, Lake Erie Clean
A new initiative in Cleveland Heights will see residents "paint the town" in an attempt to reduce chemicals making it into waterways.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Residents are invited to stencil the words, "Lake Erie Starts Here" above storm drains throughout the city. The community art project is part of an initiative to reduce the amount of contaminants that are dumped into the Doan Brook and, subsequently, flushed into Lake Erie.
The city said motor oil, litter, pet and yard waste, and fertilizers or pesticides from lawns can end up in the Doan Brook. The hope is that additional awareness of environmental impacts might make a dent in the amount of chemicals that end up in the lake.
The stenciling program will be held June 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants will be marking curbs next to residential storm drains, according to a post on the city's website.

The attendees will meet at the north end of the Cleveland Heights Community Center parking lot, 1 Monticello Boulevard. There will be a short demonstration on how to stencil, then attendees can pick-up all their supplies and street assignments.
If the weather turns nasty, stenciling will be moved one day later, to June 17, and will be run in the same time frame.
