Soups, Stews, and Casseroles: 1976 by Rebecca Gilman (2015 New Ground Theatre Festival)

The Helen Rosenfeld Lewis Bialosky Lab Theatre, May 16.

Reading • Directed by Laura Kepley • The Helen, May 16 at 5:00 pm • $20

Big change is coming to the small town where Kim and Kat are raising their teenage daughter. Monroe, Wisconsin, is known for its pungent limburger cheese and not much else. But that’s all about to change when Monroe’s largest employer is bought out by a national corporation and Kat befriends the new boss’s cosmopolitan wife. While their neighbors prepare to strike, Kat and Kim climb the social and corporate ladder…but at what cost? Flavored with plenty of laughs and small town charm, Soups, Stews, and Casseroles: 1976 is an absorbing, poignant story of community and the changing times.

The Helen (Playhouse Square, 1407 Euclid Ave, Cleveland OH 44115). Tickets are $10-20 and can be purchased at clevelandplayhouse.com or by calling 216-241-6000.
