Jennifer Lawrence Visits Ohio High School

The Academy Award winner made a surprise visit to a government class on Thursday.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH β€” Thirty Heights High students had the surprise of a lifetime on Thursday when Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence made a shocking visit to their government class. Lawrence is touring with Represent.Us, a nonprofit group that wants to fight corruption in American politics.

A classroom of mostly juniors and seniors had an intense, hour long conversation about how to fix American democracy with the actress. Government teacher Justin Hons and senior Londyn Crenshaw introduced the speakers, including Lawrence.

β€œIt was really amazing how informed Ms. Lawrence is about politics,” said Crenshaw. β€œIt makes a big difference when people who are just 10 years older than us come to talk about political issues. When she said β€˜this is your time,’ that really made me think. I have been involved in my community and will continue to be involved in grassroots activism because it’s important.”

The actress and a member of Represent.Us talked about the work they've been doing to advocate against political corruption. The duo then took questions from the class.

Lawrence, along with other celebrities, have been promoting the Unrig the System conference that Represent.Us is putting on. That event will be held Feb. 2-4 in New Orleans.
Lawrence won an Oscar in 2012 for performance in Silver Linings Playbook. Her next film, Red Sparrow, will be released in March 2018.
