Letter From Cleveland Heights Mayor Jason Stein

I am proud to live in such an engaged community and to serve as Mayor of Cleveland Heights. As you know, in March a Council seat was vacated and since then we have been recruiting candidates and interviewing for a new member to join the Cleveland Heights City Council.

The application deadline was April 6th and we received 22 applicants from across the city (three ended up withdrawing). We were extremely pleased with the diversity of candidates - neighborhood, race, gender, age, experience - a true reflection of Cleveland Heights. In addition to submitting an application, each candidate did a video interview hosted by the League of Women Voters. These interviews along with all applications have been posted on the City’s website. Every member of the Council reviewed all applicants and their videos, and we spent time deliberating on which candidates we felt would bring the most to the position. I want to be clear that everyone who applied has demonstrated a strong commitment to our city and the willingness to volunteer their time for the betterment of our city. I’d like to personally thank each of them.

Monday night during an Executive Session, Council selected four finalists. I’d like to congratulate the four finalists - Craig Cobb, Anthony Cuda, Anthony Mattox, Jr., Robert Koonce - and to thank them for their time and interest. In the next week or so each of the finalists will have an online Executive Session interview with the full Council. Following that, we will make a final determination and then plan for the swearing-in ceremony.

I look forward to once again having the full seven-person Council serving the people of Cleveland Heights. Thank you again to everyone that applied.
