Meet The New Heights High Principal

The Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education approved his hiring on Tuesday. He'll meet residents on May 22.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Byron Hopkins is the new principal for Heights High School, the school district announced this week. His hiring was approved by the Board of Education on Tuesday.

“I’m very excited to return to the CH-UH community,” said Hopkins, who lived for several years in Cleveland Heights. “This is an opportunity to join a community that I know supports students and supports education. I look forward to working with the administrative team, teachers, students, and the community to ensure that Heights High produces scholars who are college and career ready.”

Hopkins is currently the principal at Buchtel High School in Akron. He has been in the Akron Public Schools for the past four years, first as the principal at Kenmore High, then at Buchtel. Before joining Akron, Hopkins was principal at East Tech Success Academy and then John Marshall High, both part of the Cleveland Metro School District.

He will be doing a meet-and-greet with residents on May 22 in the Heights High library from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“We are excited that Byron will be leading Heights High next year,” said CH-UH Superintendent Talisa Dixon. “Byron is a proven leader who has a diverse background as an educator and administrator in Northeast Ohio. His experience as a Career Tech teacher adds another layer to his resume as someone who fits our district mission--preparing students for college and careers. His familiarity with the CH-UH community will also be an asset as he makes connections with our students and their families. I look forward to seeing his leadership in action at Heights High.”
