Gunshots At Cain Park? Nope — Just Paintballs

Residents were worried a group of young men were shooting at each other in Cleveland Heights. They were — with paintball guns.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Residents near Cain Park called Cleveland Heights Police in a panic Thursday afternoon. Reports were coming in that there were gunshots fired on South Taylor Road, near Bainbridge. Those rumors were unfounded.

It turns out that a group of young adult men gathered at Cain Park with their paintball guns and began firing at each other. Two of the men have been taken into custody and face charges of inducing panic, Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said.

The young men arrived at the park in three cars at about 5 p.m. It appears they had planned to meet in the park. No one was hurt in the incident.

Mecklenburg said she has received several concerned calls from residents about the incident, mostly from residents thinking gunshots were fired.

"Again, I just want to put everyone's mind at ease that there were no gunshots involved in this incident. We will continue to investigate to identify the other males that were involved in this incident," she said on NextDoor.
