Oldest American: Honor May Now Rest With Ohio Woman
A 114-year-old woman in Pennsylvania died Thursday. Her passing means a Cleveland Heights woman may now be the U.S.'s oldest resident.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — America's oldest resident, a 114-year-old Pennsylvania woman, passed away this week. The oldest person in the U.S. may now be a 113-year-old Cleveland Heights woman, according to reports.
Delphine Gibson, a Huntingdon County resident, died on Thursday. She was born in 1903 and had lived in Pennsylvania for more than 90 years. The news was confirmed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf. "She was an incredible Pennsylvanian and she will be missed," he said on Twitter.
Lessie Brown, a 113-year-old Cleveland Heights resident, is now believed to be the oldest living American. She was born on Sept. 22, 1904. She is believed to be the last living American born in 1904.

Brown was born on a farm in Georgia, according to a Heights Observer article celebrating her 110th birthday. She moved to the Cleveland area in 1921. She had five children with her husband. The couple lived together in Northeast Ohio until 1991, when Lessie's husband passed away.
Brown has lived to see 29 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren in her family.
