Parents Give “Blended” High School Top Marks

Nexus Academy's high-quality curriculum, teacher support, different learning environment are top enrollment drivers for students and parents

As the Nexus Academy of Cleveland begins its fifth academic year today, a recent independent survey reveals a large majority of parents with children enrolled in the blended high school, believe they are progressing academically and are satisfied with the overall program.

Nexus Academy schools are tuition-free blended public high schools combining the best of online learning with a state-of-the-art campus environment, offering a high quality education for students seeking a more personalized and flexible public school option. According to the survey, 94 percent of parents gave the program an “A” or “B” grade. In addition 86 percent of the parents would recommend Nexus Academy of Cleveland to other parents.

According to the survey, 80 percent of the parents surveyed are more satisfied with the program than their child’s previous school. Ninety-four percent of the parents agree their students are making good progress at Nexus Academy believe their child/children are enjoying the program.

Ninety-two percent of the parents who responded to the survey agrees that the curriculum is high quality and 97 percent say they are satisfied with the variety of learning activities provided by the program. In addition, more than 94 percent say the use of technology improves the learning experience.

Other findings from the survey indicate:

· 100 percent of the parents are satisfied with the helpfulness of their Nexus Academy teachers

· 92 percent of parents agree that the teachers improve the learning experience

· 84 percent of parents rate the involvement of Nexus Academy Success Coaches in supporting their child/children’s learning as excellent or good

“We are committed to providing the best possible educational experience for our students and their families. It is gratifying to know that the parents are seeing positive results,” said Brittiany Sanford, Principal, Nexus Academy of Cleveland. “This annual survey is one of the important tools we use to assess our blended program and it helps us stay in tune with the opinions and perspectives of the families we serve.”

Nexus Academy’s parent satisfaction ratings stand well above public school ratings from the 47th Annual Phi Delta Kappa/Gallup Poll of the Public’s Attitudes Toward the Public Schools, where 70 percent of public school parents gave the school their oldest child attends an “A” or a “B” grade.[1]

Nexus Academy students attend a physical campus where teachers interact with them both online and on-site, while campus-based teachers and “Success Coaches” help guide students through Connections Education’s comprehensive online high school curriculum.
