Robbery In E. Derbyshire Driveway: Police Arrest 3 Suspects

A Cleveland Heights man was getting out of his car when two men rushed him and took his cell phone.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH β€” A man was robbed in his driveway on East Derbyshire on Thursday night. Three men have since been arrested for their suspected role in the incident.

The robbery happened Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. in the 2900 block of E. Derbyshire. The man had just gotten home and was getting out of his car when two men rushed toward him. They stole the man's cell phone and took off running.

The resident said a third man watched the incident from the sidewalk and then took off with the suspects. A newer model, white Honda Accord, with a black roof, was seen on the street. Police believe this was the suspects' getaway vehicle.

The suspects were described African American men, in their teens or early 20s, wearing all dark clothing, puffy coats, and ski masks. Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said the men may have committed a second robbery in Cleveland on Thursday.

"The CHPD just wants to reassure everyone that we are diligently investigating these crimes and thus far we have arrested three suspects - two adult males and one juvenile male - in connection with the robberies. We have also identified other juvenile suspects involved in these robberies and are actively looking for them," Mecklenburg added.

Police will continue to patrol the area, and maintain a strong and visible police presence. Mecklenburg asked residents to contact police if they see anything suspicious.
