Subway Robbery Suspect Shot By Cleveland Heights Police

A Cleveland Heights police officer shot a person suspected of armed robbery on Wednesday morning, the city announced.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — An armed robbery suspect was shot during a pursuit by Cleveland Heights police on Wednesday morning. The suspect has been taken to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect tried to rob the Subway at Mayfield and Warrensvile roads, according to police. The suspect pulled a gun inside the restaurant and pointed it at a Subway employee. The suspect then ran out of the store and was chased by Cleveland Heights police.

Police gave the suspect first-aid until EMS arrived and took the suspect to a local hospital. The suspect is reportedly in stable condition, a city spokesperson said. A gun was recovered at the scene, according to police.

"The incident is being investigated by the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, an independent arm of the Ohio Attorney General's Office. The officer [involved in the shooting] is on leave per Cleveland Heights police protocol," a city spokesperson told Patch.

The suspect has not been formally charged because he has been hospitalized, police said.

"We will not be releasing his name or any further information on the suspect until he is formally charged," a police spokesperson said.
