Two Women Robbed, Carjacked In Cleveland Heights

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Two women were robbed at gunpoint at an apartment complex on Mayfield Road on Saturday night.

The robbery happened just after 9:30 p.m., Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg said. The women had just parked their car in the rear lot of the apartment building when they were approached by two men.

One of them pulled out a handgun and ordered the women to the ground. The women laid down and the men took their car keys, cell phones, and purse. The men then got into the car the women had just parked and drove away. Neither of the women were hurt during the incident, police said.

"I would like to ensure everyone that we are working very hard to identify and arrest the suspects in this incident. We have not had other similar incidents such as this in awhile. We are also taking measures to increase our visibility in the area of this incident," Mecklenburg said in a social media message to the community.

The stolen car was a gray 2015 Chevy Cruz with a Missouri license plate that reads SR9UON.

Mecklenburg added that the suspects are both African American men, approximately 16 years of age. One of the suspects has a thin build and was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, with the hood cinched tightly around his face. The other suspect is taller and has a larger build than his companion. He was wearing a black vest with a scarf covering his face.
