Upgraded Sewer Basin Coming to Willoughby
The Ohio EPA awarded nearly $4.5 million to the city as a low-interest loan.

WILLOUGHBY, OH - The Ohio EPA awarded a nearly $4.5 million low-interest loan to the city of Willoughby for an upgrade to the city's sewage system. State Representative John Rogers, Democrate, said new sewer system will also improve water quality in Lake Erie.
βThe Ohio EPA loan to Willoughby is an example of how the state and local communities can work together to improve infrastructure while also protecting our environment,β said Rogers in a press release. βI am pleased to see the state work with the city to help complete this important project while preserving a tremendous resource.β
Rogers said Willoughby will use the funds to construct a 1-million-gallon underground storage basin for sanitary sewage at the Quentin Road pump station. The new basin will help to reduce the flow of untreated sewage into Lake Erie.
βIn addition to helping maintain our infrastructure and protecting the environment, the Ohio EPA's loan will allow Willoughby flexibility in its budget to invest in other projects within the community to the benefit of its citizens,β said Rogers.
The Ohio EPAβs reduced-rate loan will save Willoughby about $653,000. The Ohio EPA loan comes from the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund (WPCLF).
